ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION
Boiler Shop and the Creative Cities Convention team both advocate equality of opportunity for people with disabilities and take the necessary steps to meet their requirements. This guide is designed to inform everybody attending the event what we offer to assist customers who may have particular requirements. We encourage you to get in touch with any questions or concerns you may have so that we can ensure you can get as much out of the event as possible.
GETTING TO BOILER SHOP
Boiler Shop is situated behind Newcastle Central station, approx. 480 metres away.
There is limited accessible parking, please contact the event organiser (details below) if parking at the venue is essential. Alternatively, the nearest car park is Stephenson Quarter Car Park (Forth Banks, Newcastle Upon-Tyne, NE1 3PH), located 400 metres away. If you are arriving by taxi, you can get dropped off on Sussex Street just a few metres from the front door.
Pre-booked taxis can be ordered from Blue Line Taxis 0191 262 6666 or Dean Taxis 0191 444 4444. Please visit our practical information page for more travel information.
INTO BOILER SHOP
Upon entering the venue, the CCC team will be on the registration desk to greet you. If you require help into the venue please let us know in advance, and we can arrange this for you.
The conference and networking spaces are located on the ground floor. Once inside, there are no steps. There is a mezzanine with access via a small lift should you want to visit this space.
There is plenty of room in the venue so moving around shouldn’t be a problem, but if you do have any issues, please ask a member of staff for help.
The main conference space will have provision for wheelchair users in the front row of the delegate seating.
FACILITIES
Accessible Toilets
Within the venue, there is an accessible toilet. This is located near the entrance, on the ground floor on the left-hand side. If you require assistance to get to the toilet, please let a member of staff know, who will be happy to help. Please inform the venue duty manager if you don’t have a radar key so they can provide you with one.
Respite space
We have a small room, separated from the main space, which can double as a quiet space as needed. Please talk to a member of the CCC team or venue duty manager should you require access to a quiet space.
Evacuation Policy
We have been assured that the venue’s security staff are trained to know how to assist people with accessibility needs in case of emergency. There is a refuge point located at the back of the Mezzanine (situated behind the door leading to the emergency exit.) On the ground floor customers are asked to leave by the nearest exit.
Deaf and Visually Impaired customers
If you are visually impaired or hard of hearing, please contact the event organiser who will reserve you a seat in the front row of the delegate seating for the conference sessions. The venue has an induction loop. Please contact the event team for more information.
Customers with Medical Requirements
If you need to bring any medicines, food or drink to manage a medical condition, or medical equipment, you are welcome to do so but please inform the event organiser ahead of the event so provision can be made. There are several first aid boxes located around the venue and a defibrillator.
Assistance Dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome in the venue, we can provide water for them as needed.
Inclusivity
We are committed to providing an environment that is welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all our conference guests and delegates, and for all team members and volunteers. We will not tolerate harassment or harmful behaviour in any form.
Covid
A hand sanitiser station will be located near the main entrance in addition to other hand sanitisers placed around the venue.
